Ciao Lucia is a California based label created and designed by Lucy Akin and launched in June 2017.
The idea of Ciao Lucia is the girl on eternal vacation – lots of light pieces you would want to wear at the beach, by the pool, and in that hot Summer weather.  Inspired by places like the French Riviera and the Amalfi Coast, the collection has a lot of vintage references – high waisted bikini bottoms, Victorian blouses, tortoise shell buttons… It is themed after an old Italian movie poster. We’ve used fabrics that would be great for throwing in your suitcase and going- lots of silk voiles, washed cottons, gauze, and soft silks – things that feel good on the skin. We like to envision a girl at a beautiful seaside hotel in Europe, tanning by the water, taking long afternoon strolls, and having lengthy dinners with friends.
The line is very nostalgic to the designer Lucy Akin because when she was little, Italian graphic design became one of her passions – she collected vintage postcards from Italy and all the old liquor posters for Contreau and Martini. The Talented Mr Ripley was her favorite movie and she worked at a Sicilian restaurant on the water of San Francisco all through high school and college. This love of Europe and travel brought her to college where she insisted on studying abroad 4 times – Cannes, Rome, Paris, and London and while studying in Rome, she got the nickname Lucia. After working in fashion and traveling non-stop to the various fashion weeks, traveling became one of her biggest passions. And she wanted to design a line that was perfect for just that.
We believe that the Ciao Lucia girl appreciates and covets her pieces, so forgive us for not offering a high turnover of styles and pieces. These pieces were made with love and hopefully find a place in your closet for a long while!
